Volleyball team wins title

After scoring the final point, members of the volleyball team celebrate winning the Ben Davis Invitational.

For a team that won only seven games last season, the girls volleyball squad is off to a fast 6-2 start aftert winning the Ben Davis Invitational this past weekend.

The Giants beat Shelbyville 2-1, Lutheran 2-0 and Terre Haute North 2-0 to claim the championship. Ben Davis leads the MIC standings with a 3-0 record and travels to Lawrence North tonight.

Seniors continue to impact the Giants. In the championship game Saturday, senior Danielle Cuttino had 11 kills and six blocks while senior Madison Yoder had 18 digs and six aces. Sophomore Olivia Ferguson recorded 70 assists in the three matches.

In other weekend sporting events, the boys cross country finished fifth as a team with 160 points at the Franklin Invitational. Senior David Behrmann led the Giants with a 23rd place finish in 17:08.3. The girls finished 14th as team and were led by sophomore Noah Pumphrey with a 13th place finish in 18:20.24.
