There’s a Hall of Fame Classic to play in. There’s a season opening weekend at Brownsburg. There’s a showcase at Southport. There are games scheduled against every team ranked in the Class 4A preseason Top 10.

Welcome to Ben Davis boys basketball, 2022-23 style.

“I am really excited about this group,” coach Don Carlisle said. “We are old in a good way A lot of experience returns to us this year, expectations are sky-high.”

The boys start the season Tuesday at Fishers and then travel to Zionsville Nov. 26 and then at Southport Nov. 30. The home opener is Dec. 2 against Pike and then a showdown against No. 3 Kokomo Dec. 3 at Brownsburg. The Giants enter the preseason ranked No. 2 behind defending state champion Cathedral. Also on the schedule is a trip to New Castle over Christmas break to play in the Hall of Fame Classic.

The boys return their entire starting lineup and top seven players from last season’s sectional champion team. Seniors Zane Doughty, Sheridan Sharp, Clay Butler, Shaun Arnold and junior KJ Windham return as starters and will be helped by seniors Jesse Faires and Jamar Carnell.

There is little doubt as to what the goal is this season.

“We will achieve at a high level,” Carlisle said. “The goal is to win a state championship. You all can expect a high paced defensive-minded group that will be a fun brand of basketball to watch.”
