Black House Coffee is a stand-out cafe offering a very different experience from the majority of coffee shops around Indianapolis. It opened in January in a former dentists’ office, and boasts comfort amongst horror-themed memorabilia. It packs tons of posters and old vinyl records, as well as figures and fan art. While small, it has a healthy stream of business that maintains it not being overly packed at any given time, allowing everyone to sit down when they please.
When it comes to beverages, the cafe has a plethora of options for coffee that change depending on the season. Now, as we approach fall, they have cinnamon, apple, and pumpkin drinks as their highlights, and smoothies and teas are also on the menu occasionally. Every drink is named after some character from most mainstream horror films (although there is no Michael Myers, which we found exceptionally strange). The food menu includes light breakfasts, such as bagels and avocado toast.
Overall, the food is good, but the coffee is definitely where they shine. They offer a discount if you bring in your own cup, and the portions don’t disappoint. Be weary, however, of having too small a cup, since they fill it to the brim.
It was a great place to stop by on a rainy Saturday morning, and it’s definitely worth a visit as Halloween approaches.
