Xavier (0-2) opened its season with losses to Memphis (84-64) and Utah (106-71).  Nia Clark had 16 points  (7 for 13, 1 for 4, 1 for 1) one assist, one steal, one blocked shot, and four turnovers in 33 minutes against Memphis; and nine points (3 for 10, 1 for 4, 2 for 2), three rebounds, one assist, one steal, and five turnovers against Utah.

Lakeland (1-1)  lost 79-40 to Wisconsin-Oshkosh and defeated Finlandia 62-46.  Brianna Jones had three rebounds, one blocked shot, five missed shots, and two turnovers in 23 minutes in the loss; and six points (1 for 7, 0 for 2, 4 for 7), six rebounds, three assists, and one turnover in 24 minutes in the win.

Toledo is 2-0 after winning its first two games of the season, defeating Oakland 80-72 and Wright State 73-56. Khera Goss had nine points (3 for 8, 0 for 2, 3 for 4), four rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one turnover against Oakland; and six points (3 for 7, 0 for 2, 0 for 0), three rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 24 minutes against Wright State.

Vincennes (3-2) defeated Jefferson 88-72 and lost 82-67 to Three Rivers CC and 84-71 to Moberly Area CC. Cherelle Newsome  had 11 points (4 for 8, 3 for 7, 0 for 0), three assists, and one turnover against Jefferson; 13 points (4 for 12, 3 for 10, 2 for 2), one rebound, two assists, one steal, and three turnovers against Three Rivers; and eight points (3 for 10, 0 for 5, 2 for 2), three rebounds, two assists, one steal, and two turnovers against Moberly.

FOOTBALL

Minnesota (6-4, 4-3) lost 27-22 to Iowa. Esezi Otomewo started on the defensive line for the Gophers and had one solo tackle.

Reese Taylor had two solo tackles and assisted on one for Indiana (2-8, 0-7) in a 38-3 loss to Rutgers.

Ohio State (9-1, 7-0) defeated Purdue (6-4, 4-3) 59-31. Dawand Jones started on the offensive line for the Buckeyes. Wide receiver Broc Thompson caught three passes for 22 yards, including a 12 yard TD reception, for the Boilers.

Daylan Carnell saw action for Missouri (5-5, 2-4)  in a 31-28 win against South Carolina.

Delbert Mimms played for North Carolina State (7-3, 4-2) in a 45-42 loss to Wake Forest.

Starting wide receiver Noah Thomas caught eight passes for 123 yards, including TD receptions of 17 and four yards, for Rose-Hulman (8-2 7-0), which clinched the Heartland Conference championship and an NCAA Division III tournament berth, with  a 58-21 win against second place Mount St. Joseph.

Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham (6-4, 5-3) lost 52-33 to Stevenson. Starting wide receiver Adrian Reese caught three passes for 53 yards, including a 30 yard TD reception,  and returned three kickoffs for 60 yards, with a long of 27, for Fairleigh Dickinson..

Wayne Vaughn started at center for Manchester (3-7, 3-4) in a 3-0 defeat of Anderson.

Braden McGowan played for Franklin (6-4, 4-3), which regained the Victory Bell with a 27-16 win over Hanover.

Alfred Moore had five solo tackles, including a sack, for St. Francis (3-6, 1-5) in a 37-7 loss to Concordia.

Sir’ Zion Dance had six solo tackles for Marian  (8-2) in a 41-7 win against Lawrence Tech. Trent Gipson also played for the Knights.

MENS BASKETBALL

St. Leo (1-1) opened its season with an 89-86 loss to Alabama-Huntsville and a 74-64 win against Montevallo. Rob Fry played briefly in each game.

Taylor (1-5) lost 69-67 to IU-Kokomo and defeated Miami-Middleton 76-65. Jeff Clayton started and had eight points (4 for 4), eight rebounds, one steal, two assists, and one turnover in 34 minutes in the loss; and nine points (4 for 6, 1 for 1, 0 for 0), six rebounds, one steal, two assists, and two turnovers in the win.

Illinois Central CC (3-2) defeated the Olivet Nazarene JVs 71-62 and lost 74-69 to Bryant-Stratton and 87-66 to Rend Lake. Josh Shannon totaled six points (3 for 8, 0-for 2, 0 for 2), four rebounds, one steal, one blocked shot, and two turnovers in the three games.

Jackson Gowdy played 11 minutes for Wabash Valley (2-1) in a 92-73 win against the Georgetown, KY jayvees  and had five points (1 for 3, 0 for 2, 3 for 4), six rebounds, and one assist.

Ball State (1-1) lost 82-71 to Georgia Southern in its season opener but rebounded with a 73-69 defeat of Omaha. Jalen Windham had 12 points (4 for 9, 3 for 8, 1 for 2), one rebound, two assists, two steals,  and one turnover in 24 minutes in the loss; and a team high 14 points (4 for 10, 4 for 5, 2 for 4), three rebounds, two assists, and one turnover in 20 minutes in the win.

Josh Brewer had 12 points (5 for 15, 0 for 4, 2 for 2), three rebounds, one assist, and two steals for St. Mary’s , TX (1-2) in 38 minutes in an 82-57 defeat of The Colorado School of Mines; and 18 points (6 for 16, 3 for 7,  3 for 4), five rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one turnover in 29 minutes in an 89-87 overtime loss to Regis.

Kankakee CC (4-1) lost 77-62 to Marshalltown and won 77-70 against Black Hawk-Moline.  Jaylen Jennings started in both games for Kankakee and had nine points (2 for 4, 1 for 2, 4 for 4), two rebounds, and one steal in 15 minutes in the loss; and one rebound, one assist, one steal, and four missed shots (0 for 4, 0 for 2, 0 for 0) in 11 minutes in the win.

MENS SOCCER

Marian (10-8-2) lost 2-0 to Bethel in the semi-finals of the conference tournament. Jalen Rice took two of Marian’s three shots in the match, none on goal.

MENS CROSS COUNTRY

 Franklin placed 27th of 37 teams at the 8K NCAA D-III Regional held in Shelbyville. Corbin Lee was sixth for Franklin and 227th of 266 overall in 29:28.2. Trine finished in 11th place at the same regional, and Zach Brickler was fourth for Trine and 91st  overall.

WOMENS CROSS COUNTRY

Competing for Transylvania, which ran only three women, at the 6K NCAA Division Three Regional, Toren Hartog was second for Transylvania and 230th  of 266 overall in 27:36.3.
