Changes to school scheduling are being looked at in Wayne Township.
At Ben Davis High School, changes to the daily schedule are being considered that could take place as soon as the school renovation is complete. Part of the redesign of the school is to accommodate a three-period lunch schedule instead of the current five periods. No decisions on that new schedule are expected until late next semester.
In addition, the Wayne Township school board has studied possible changes to the township-wide school schedule that could include an early-release day, a late-arrival day or even a four-day school week for students.
The school board has a committee that includes representation from the Superintendent’s Cabinet, Elementary/Secondary Principal, CTA Member, TLC (including OSS, LAP), Primary/Intermediate Teacher, Middle School Teacher, High School Teacher, Instructional classified, Non-instructional classified, Student, Caregiver, Business Office, Transportation, Child Nutrition, and Custodial. This committee has been studying scheduling options for Wayne Township.
The school board plans to look at the findings of that study at the January 27 school board meeting. A vote on any changes could take place as early as the February 10 meeting.
The study is a result of our active strategic plan that was developed with feedback from 10,819 students and 8,325 community constituents.
