Girls, boys track win openers
Spring sports off to fast start
The boys and girls track teams opened the outdoor season with wins Tuesday night.
The girls competed in a three-way meet with Lawrence Central and North Central and the Giants came out on top with 69 points while Lawrence Central was second with 58 and North Central third with 44.
Ben Davis first place winners were:
4×800 relay – Maritza and Meliza Rodriguez, Regina Wright and Connie Brahm
4×100 relay – Dajia Collier, Ravon Woodson, Ralen Campbell and Kyara Simmons
4×400 relay – Ralen Campbell, Dajia Collier, Connie Brahn and Kyara Simmons
100 meters and 200 meters – Kyara Simmons
800 meter run – Connie Brahm
High jump – Shavona Cuttino
Long jump – Ravon Woodson
The boys track team also opened with a win in a three-way meet. The Giants scored 65.5 points while North Central was second with 53.5 and Lawrence North was third with 49.
In other sports Tuesday, Dee Dowler lost his home opener as baseball coach 3-1 to Avon in extra innings. Avon also spoiled the debut of Monica Kirschner as softball coach with a 5-1 win. The girls tennis team opened its season with a 5-0 blanking of Pike.
