Teachers give us grades all the time, but what if we could grade them too? I think we should be able to grade our teachers because it could help teachers improve.
Some teachers are absolutely great, but others don’t explain things well or don’t treat students fairly and I have had some of those experiences. If students could give feedback, teachers would know what’s working and what’s not.
Grading our teachers would also make us feel heard. Sometimes, it feels like teachers have all the power and we just have to deal with it. If a student was to give their opinion, they would take it as disrespect and write an email home to our parents when that should never be the case.
If we could grade, it would give us a voice and make school feel more fair. Some teachers are really bad at teaching and a lot of kids struggle to catch on and understand.
Of course, it shouldn’t just be about being nice and mean. The grading system should be honest and helpful, not just giving students a bad grade because they didn’t do their homework or got a bad grade on their test. Maybe all of that happened because their teacher is bad at teaching and they didn’t understand the lesson.
But if done right, it could help make school a place where both students and teachers do and try their best. Grading teachers could make classes better, help teachers improve, and give students a say in their education.
If teachers can judge us, why shouldn’t we be able to judge them too?
