Poverty in the United States is a recurring issue. Poverty affects millions of people, even the ones who are not in poverty.
Poverty is when individuals lack income, food, water, shelter, healthcare, and clothing. According to statistics 11% of the United States population is in poverty, this means over 35 million people are struggling and in poverty.
Poverty results in a lot of consequences like increased crime rate. People in poverty are willing to do a lot to get out of the struggle and that includes crimes. Some people steal and rob to make it out.
Poverty can also cause limited access to education. Some kids in poverty are not able to get the same amount of educational privilege as some other kids. They may not be able to afford a tutor, supplies, or even to just go to school.
Although poverty is bad, we can do things to help it.
You can support programs that provide early childhood education, after school tutoring, and scholarships for higher education. Supporting programs and pitching in money to these things can allow them to provide more for people in poverty.
Another way to help is setting up programs like a daycare specifically for people in poverty, a program to help budget and spend money, etc. Another thing that can help is expanding healthcare.
Making more affordable healthcare for people in poverty situations can also help a lot and save a lot of lives. Lastly, people can volunteer at local food banks, donating to charities that focus on poverty, and participating in advocacy efforts.
