Bullying is a continuous issue that seems to occur a lot among teenagers. Bullying affects countless lives in a bad way, whether it is physically or mentally.
Bullying can come in many different ways such as cyber bullying, physical bullying, verbal bullying, social bullying, and more. Bullying affects people in a lot of different ways.
The cyberbullying research center reports that about 37% of young people between the ages of 12 and 17 have been bullied online before. Online bullying is the most common because technology access has increased for teens over the years so it is easier for people to bully and get bullied online. The Internet also allows bullies to hide behind a screen, which can make them more bold with their actions. Reporting, blocking, and speaking up will help stop cyberbullying.
Bullying also causes a big problem with mental health and long-term effects, especially with teens. Studies show that students who are bullied are at an increased risk of depression, anxiety, stress, etc. Studies also show that people who were bullied as children were more likely to experience mental health issues in adulthood and for the rest of their life.
To help prevent bullying make sure you promote kindness. If you see someone bullying/getting bullied make sure to speak up and say something to someone who can help. If you are the person getting bullied make sure you tell a trusted adult because staying silent will not help you as much as you think it will. Lastly, if you are the person doing the bullying stop and think about how your words and actions are going to affect that person mentally and physically.
