Key Club gives students a chance to give back
Key Club is a student led organization that allows students to interact and help make their school and community a better place.
This organization is part of a bigger constitution called the Key Club International. Through participation as a Key Club member in the service projects they do, members will develop initiative, leadership ability and good citizenship practices.
Some of the activities that Key Club does includes secret santa ,UNICEF, Westlake carnival, funfest, coats for kids and more fun activities that will help improve our school and our community. Members of Key Club can also come up with great ideas for new activities and projects to do.
World language teacher Stefanie Turchyn, a sponsor of Key Club, was in Key Club during high school and continued to volunteer during collage.
Turchyn explains why she got interested in Key Club.
” I sponsor Key Club because I believe in the value of community service,” she said.
Turchyn believes Key Club is a great thing for the community because Key Club not only just participates in projects that help organizations provide immediate services to the community, but it also creates a love for volunteering in students at a young age that often will continue throughout a lifetime, building leaders for our future.
Sophomore Jaylen Ray says his favorite thing about Key Club is how friendly everybody is and how willing they are to help anyone who’s in need.
“It’s a club that actually helps the community while having fun,” Ray said.
All you need to do to be a member of Key Club is go to one of their once a month meetings, which are usually held on Mondays and there you will receive more information about upcoming projects/activities.
Their next meeting is on August 26 at 3 p.m. in Le Gallery.
