
What’s now revered as a festive holiday filled with parades and all things green to celebrate Irish culture, started as a celebration of one Saint Patrick.
A notable Saint cherished in Irish culture who, in his time, was able to convert much of the Irish population to Christianity. To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day (which is March 17) here at BD, here are some fun facts you probably didn’t know.

St. Patrick never actually used a four-leaf clover. Traditions often depict a four-leaf clover as a symbol of luck, although this is true, St. Patrick used a three-leaf clover, also known as a shamrock, in his teachings.
Did you know?
Ireland wasn’t always known for its green nature. Although the island may sport vast leafy forests and abundant grassy hills, green wasn’t always associated with Ireland. The color mainly represented by St. Patrick and ancient depictions of the Irish flag was blue! Ireland didn’t go green until the 18th century when the shamrock (which is green) became the national symbol.

Corned Beef and Cabbage is a tasty and delectable meal commonly eaten on St. Patrick’s Day. It can often be found at parades where traditional Irish musicians and dancers march the streets!
