
It is believed that April Fools originated in France in the 16th century.
Although we know it originated in France we do not know who created this holiday. The first ever record of April Fools Day was played in London in 1698. They had published in the newspaper that the moon was visible from the Earth.
Many countries celebrate this holiday differently and have different traditions.
Ancient Romans used to celebrate a holiday very similarly. It was called Hilaria. The day Hilaria landed they played jokes on each other.
In India, they celebrate by pranking each other with colored water and powder.
In France, April Fools is known as Poisson d’Avril. Poisson d’Avril is known as April Fish. On this day they celebrate by secretly placing a paper fish on someone’s back.
In Iran, April Fool’s is celebrated on the 13th of Persian New Year.
Lastly, in Scotland, April Fool’s is celebrated for two days. These two days are the 1st and 2nd of April. On the second day of April, it is known as Taily Day. On Taily Day people play pranks on each other’s tails.
There are also many beliefs when it comes to this celebration. Many believe that the joy and laughter from this day clear the mind from all evil thoughts. Adults have mixed emotions when it comes to this day. 45% of adults find the pranks humorous and 47% of adults find them irritating.
