One of the most prestigious club in Ben Davis is the African Student Association, also know as ASA.
The African Student Association exhibits diversity at Ben Davis while showcasing the different cultures and heritages of black students.
“It gives more awareness about our culture and is a fun way to include events, while highlight any history or knowledge that we may not know”, assistant dean Micheal Norris Said.
Almost 40% of the student body at Ben Davis are of the black race, yet the ASA club evokes a sense of belonging and familiarity for many African students still.
“I love this club because I get to be comfortable with everyone and I can speak the way I want. It’s been a long time since I’ve been back home, but this club feels like I’m at home again.” student Titilayo Olamigoke said.
The ASA club is a perfect environment for African students to feel related to and welcomed.
Along with the welcomeness of the club, there are also many fun and lively events. From game nights, to potlucks, there are a variety of after school events held by ASA club.
Mark your calendars because on May 16 at 7:30 p.m. there will be a ASA festival held in the Theatre.
“We’ll have the music going, the lights show, someones gonna come through with the flags, and have everybody walks through with their culture outfits. Kinda showcasing where they’re from and be proud. We usually have food prior to that, and then we’ll go have fun for that night.” Norris Said.
The ASA festival is going to be a fun event, so make sure to show up and embrace your culture.
