Ryan McMaster could not be more proud of his 2024 boys cross country team.
At Saturday’s state meet, the Giants placed 15th as a team and had an all-state runner in junior Aboubakar Ibrahim, who finised 16th overall in 15:33.6 (All-State goes to Top 25 indivdually of 275 runners).
Ibrahim a week early ran the second fastest time in school history and he and his teammates placed 15th at a state in a meet that were seeded anywhere from 20-25.
“We not only beat 10 other teams to prove we belonged there, but also teams like Avon, Zionsville and Mt Vernon who either beat us at other races in the season or were ranked in the Top 10 at different times in the season,” McMaster said. “For our first time back in 25 years this is huge.”
This is BDs first trip to state since 1999 and capped a day that also saw former BD runner Scott Williams — owner of the fastest time in school history — lead the Carmel girls to a stte title in his first year as coach there.
But for the Giants, the story was a top 15 finish by a group of young men who ran together and enjoyed the season.
