The Super Bowl this year took place against the AFC’s #1 seed Kansas City Chiefs vs the NFC’s #2 seed Philadelphia Eagles, in New Orleans, Louisiana at Caesars Superdome.
For this game, the Chiefs were -1.5-point favorites. These are two teams who had dominant regular season performances with the Kansas City Chiefs being 15-2, and the Eagles being 14-3.
These teams have also had extensive playoff matches even with the Chiefs having the #1 seed which gave them a bye week they still fought CJ Stroud’s hot Houston Texans who demolished the Chargers, and another strong team in the Buffalo Bills. The controversial calls within that game still showed how much of a championship team they are, by beating the Bills in a close 32-29 victory at Arrowhead.
The Eagle’s path didn’t include a bye week, but some would say it ran smoother. The Eagles started by beating the Packers 22-10, in a back-and-forth defensive game, then the next week it was against the LA Rams which proved to be more of a challenge with it being 28-22. With winning against the Rams it gave them a ticket to the NFC Championship against their division rival the Washington Commanders. In a dominant fashion they won in a blowout with the score being 55-23.
The same as the College Football National Championship, everyone thought it would be a tight game with stars on both sides. This was farther from the truth though.
The Eagles started the game by failing a 4th & 2 because of an already controversial pass interference that had Eagles fans riled up. But after that, it was straight domination.
In the first quarter, the Eagles shut down the Chiefs and went up 7-0. The second quarter is really when the Eagles heat up. At the beginning of the second quarter, Jalen Hurts threw an interception reversing their progress.
When the Chiefs got the ball back the Eagles defense forced an immediate 3 and out. The next Eagles drive they went down the field to score a field goal. As soon as the Chiefs next drive starts Patrick Mahomes throws a pick 6 to Eagles rookie cornerback Cooper Dejean, making it 17-0. And before the half Jalen Hurts got a touchdown, making it 24-0. The Apple Music halftime show was led by hip-pop phenomenon Kendrick Lamar. In his show, he had Samuel L. Jackson as Uncle Sam, and SZA another star as a special guest on numerous of his tracks. The audience reaction was mixed, some loved it, some didn’t like it at all and most thought it was underwhelming.
The second half started with it being the Chief’s ball, and almost immediately they gave the Chiefs another 3 and out.
