Lady Giants fall short in semistate

staff report

The Ben Davis girls basketball team just couldn’t get the shots to fall in a 70-55 loss to conference rival Lawrence North at the Southport semistate Saturday.

The lady Giants shot just 28% (19 of 69) from the floor and hit only one of 16 three-point attempts. They also missed 11 free throws while finishing the season with an 18-10 record.

On a brighter note, senior Cristen Carter finished the season with 355 rebounds to set the single season school record for rebounds. She finished her career with 715 rebounds, good enough for fourth place on the career rebounding list.

In other sports, junior Greg Eckels was pinned in 1:17 in his opening round match at the state finals Friday to finish his season with a a33-11 record at 152 pounds. He was the lone BD wrestler at state.

Boys swimming finished in seventh place at the Brownsburg sectionals Saturday leaving our No. 1 rated boys basketball team as the last winter sport still in action. The boys host Bosco tonight at 6 p.m. and finish the regular season Friday at Tech before starting sectionals next Wednesday against Southport at Perry Meridian. The boys are 24-0 with two games left before the tournament.
