Quick Hits: Week of May 4-May 11
Ben Davis:
-The softball team participated in the annual Marion County tournament this past weekend and gave an impressive showing, making it to the semi-finals. They defeated Perry Meridian 7-5 in the first round and Lutheran 9-2 in the second round before falling to Decatur Central 7-3 in the semi-final.
-Boys golf put up a solid week of tournament play last week, finishing ninth out of sixteen in the Marion County tournament and third out of sixteen in the North Central invite, with a close 159-155 loss to Roncalli in between. Senior Daniel Eanes was medalist in the NC Invite with an even-par 72 at Coffin Golf Course.
-Girls tennis played in the annual MIC tournament last weekend, finishing fifth in the MIC with 16 points. They face Covenant Christian tonight at home.
-Boys track won the long jump relay, high jump relay, discus relay and shot put relay at Warren Central on Thursday. The boys freshman team then placed third in the Marion County tournament over the weekend with the girls freshman team placing first.
Local:
-The Colts began their rookie camp last week, and are in the process of signing drafted and undrafted rookies for next year.
National:
-In a buzzer-beater-filled NBA playoffs, all of the second round series are tight, with the exception of the Clippers leading 3-1 over the Rockets.
-The Wells report of the DeflateGate case was released last week, claiming that it’s “more probable than not” that the balls were tampered with and Tom Brady had a part in the scheme.
-Jimmie Johnson won the SpongeBob Squarepants 400 at Kansas over the weekend.
-Rickie Fowler won the PGA Players Championship on Sunday, going 12-under for the weekend.
