Tutoring plays such a huge role in helping today’s kids with homework, tests, or even just studying.
Some might think it’s a waste of time, but to some it’s super beneficial in helping bring their grade from the lowest C to the highest A. English teacher Ashley Bonzani runs our after-school tutoring program.
“ I’m an English teacher ,” Bonzani said. “I teach a little bit of everything in the English department, mostly 10th but also AP language ,which has 11th and 12th graders in it.”
When she’s not teaching, Bonzani loves the outdoors.
“I love to be outdoors to go hiking, going for a walk, and camping,” she said. “I also love to read and write all the English teacher things.”
Bonzani loves her job.
“I love it,” she said of working at BD. “I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t love it. It’s too difficult of a job to do if you don’t like it.”
She teaches in classroom AA05 but stays longer on tutoring days, which is Tuesday and Thursday.
“It starts at 3:30 and it ends at 5, and it’s every Tuesday and Thursday in the media center,” Bonzani said of weekly tutoring.
Bonzani says tutoring is open to anyone.
“It’s usually a smaller group of students, so it’s not as intimidating like when your in a bigger classroom with more students, so a big benefit is it’s usually one on one or a smaller group,” she said.
Bonzani enjoys watching students succeed.
“You can tailor what you’re doing with them to that one kid,” Bonzani said. “I get to meet students I wouldn’t have in class, you get to connect with not only students but with teachers that are in your department. Overall the new connections make this well worth it.”
Bomzani says anyone who needs help just needs to show up.
“It depends sometimes it 30 kids then its 100 kids,” she said of the number of kids she help weekly. “It all depends on how many kids need help that day and if they wanted to get involved they just show up, they come down to the media center and say I need help with this or a place to work and they have just that.”
So if you or someone you know needs help on math work, English, or even just a quiet place to work after school the after school study tables are just for them
