As of July 1st, 2024 Indiana schools enforced the law to ban “Wireless Communication Devices” from schools.
Ben Davis High School has pushed all staff to follow this law in their classrooms. In my opinion, I believe that this law is good for schools. I was a student who had a hard time focusing on school work because of my phone. I would be too busy worrying about what was happening on Instagram instead of the classroom. Now that we have had the new law I have been able to keep up with my grades. Students may disagree and think the law is too strict. However, I think it is making a big difference.
When you walk in a classroom you do not see everyone on their phones. You see students engaged in their classwork, participating in class discussions, and getting more involved in the school work.
About 31% of teens stated that their phone causes them to lose focus. With these new laws, teachers have seen a difference in their classroom and with students being able to center their attention on their school work.
By enforcing this law I believe that students have been able to be more productive in the classroom. Technology is a big distraction but the usage being limited has become beneficiary in Ben Davis.
