This year a new phone policy has been added that affects everyone. It is not only a school policy, but is a state law restricting all phones , earbuds , and other technology during class.
These items must be put away and out of your reach so they don’t distract you from your studies. Phones in the past have been a major distraction for students.
A lot of people are addicted to their phones and can not stay off them, so this rule has been hard for them. It is important to get your work done though so you can graduate and learn something.
Teachers got their degree to teach us and it is only fair that we pay full attention to them. This gives you the chance to get out there and interact with your classmates and even make friends.
Last year, a lot of the times classes would disassociate from one another due to our cell phones. I feel like this has benefited a lot in a positive way because now I am forced to do my work and keep myself busy.
I would rather get busy then sit in boredom vs when having my phone I’m more distracted. This year I’ve been doing a better job on turning in my work and actually paying attention in class.
I do get tempted to pull my phone out, but then I remind myself that it is the law and graduation is right around the corner. Unfortunately, there are consequences to using your phone in class.
First the teacher may warn you and ask you to put it away. Next your teacher will have to email home and let your parents know. In the end you’ll end up getting your phone taken and your parents will have to come to the front office to pick it up.
I would rather just put my phone away and do my work. Other students struggle with that and, unfortunately, they will have to face the consequences. I think it’s a win because I get more work done at school so less for me to do at home.
I do think that if there is any type of emergency, you should be allowed to get on your phone. This rule applies to teachers too and this is fair for everyone. You are allowed to use your devices during the passing period and lunch.
For a strong class of 2025, we could be known as the class that started realizing the harmful affects of phone addiction and the importance of more in person socialization which will help us create a better bond with one another.
Socializing can be hard for some, but this policy will help the class interact, grow , and get to know each other. I can see why people are upset but we need to learn to put those devices down and pay attention to what is going on in front of you. This phone policy was for the best of our education.
