As the weather gets warmer, there are more things to look forward to. The month of May is usually a busy one, and there are lots of fun upcoming events to keep it exciting.
As well as being Mental Health Awareness Month, there are many holidays to keep up with. The main holidays to celebrate are Cinco de Mayo on May 5, Mother’s Day on May 12, and Memorial Day on May 27. Additionally, for those over the age of 18, primary elections are held on May 7.
Arguably the biggest event in Indianapolis every year is the Indy 500. Every May, anywhere from 200,000 to 250,000 people gather to watch the historic race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It is one of the most viewed events of the year, and it is held right in our backyard. This year, the race will be held on Sunday, May 26. The weeks leading up to race are an exciting time as Indy prepares for the crowds. Restaurants and shops in Speedway often see much more business as population increases. If you can make it, it’s worth going to Main Street in Speedway to see the decorations and exciting events that are planned to take place around the time of the race.
Another reason May is a notable time is because it symbolizes the end of the school year. For college and high school students alike, the year often comes to a close sometime in May. For Ben Davis students, the last day of school for sophomores and juniors will be May 29. Seniors will be making their way through their last day of high school, and preparing for graduation held in early June. Additionally for seniors, graduation parties are being planned and held, and it’s important to feel celebrated during this final month.
As April showers turn into May flowers, there are never dull moments on the calendar. Make sure to find time to relax and soak up the sun as it begins to shine!
