Officer McCleerey wins YMAD for August
Monthly “You Make A Difference” award given
School security officer Jeff McCleerey is the August You Make a Difference winner. McCleerey discusses his role at school:
For how long have you worked as an officer?
- “I’ve worked 15 years as an officer and four years at BD.”
What are some things you do during the school day?
- “We interact with all the students and we try to get to know all of the students. Officer Singletary and I investigate reports of crimes like bullying or theft. Out of school we are at community events, games, and dances. The main thing we do is keep the place safe for students from the beginning of the school day until the end.”
What is your favorite part of your job?
- “Working with young adults is something I like to do and making sure students are safe along with all the staff here.”
What do you do to try to improve the school?
- “We try to cooperate because we have a job to do and we have a plan for every method we use. We try to keep everyone moving along to help the school.”
When did you decide you wanted this job? Why?
- “Four years ago I was contacted by the township and I thought it was a time for change from working as an officer on the roads and things like that to working with kids.”
