When people tend to talk about high school, they only focus on the big things that happened – things like homecoming, prom, and graduation.
All of these things are important and everyone remembers them but when you look back, it’s not always the big things that only matter. The small things that shape our everyday lives, is what matters most.
The nostalgic sound of the bell that rings throughout the day letting you know when class starts and ends, the lunchroom conversations you have with your best friends, inside jokes that only you and your friend group knew about.
These little moments are things that might seen unimportant at the time but they’re what really make high school memorable.
The big things only happen a couple of times but little things happen everyday. The familiarity of seeing the same people all four years knowing they choose to stick by you.
The handshakes in the middle of the hallway when you see someone you don’t get to see as much anymore. These moments come together and create memories that will last longer than the one big moment that lasts for two hours. These little moments also teach you things that can’t be taught in a classroom.
I believe that we are too caught up in focusing on the big things and often overlook whats happening in the moment and one day the bell that tells you to get to class, will stop ringing, the lunchroom conversations won’t happen anymore, and the inside jokes won’t have a chance to be told anymore. So when you leave high school and decide to leave everything behind, take with you to pay attention to the little things.
Because at the end, they won’t be so little anymore and you won’t be able to enjoy it beyond high school.
