Everyone can agree that mental health is important. It becomes even more important in a school setting.
Even though it is so important in school it seems to not get as much attention as it should be getting. It is brought up on occasion, but never enough.
With all the overwhelming work students are given on a day to day basis and expected to finish in such a short amount of time, a students mental health can start to decline. And the teachers who claim to care so much about their students’ well-being are the same ones who never take into account that the work could be putting too much stress and pressure on the student.
This, combined with home life, can be overbearing. You never really know what goes on outside of a student’s school life, you only know as much as they’re willing to tell you. This matters because students should be able to come to school and be able to perform their best since that is the expectation that teachers want us to bring to the classroom everyday.
While students are expected to navigate academics, personal life, and new growth, they should have a comfortable setting that cares for their minds and also their hearts.
Schools should make mental health more a priority so all students have the ability to reach their full potential everyday.
