Dalene Owens-Smoot is a building substitute who is currently teaching in room C116 the drawing room.
Smoot has a background in art. She took art in high school but never thought she would teach or be a substitute teacher because she never thought she had the talent for it. Smoot had a jewelry store where she was co-partners with her husband.
I made jewelry in school because I took jewelry class in school so I had a little bit of experience so that’s how I got into that,” Smoot said. “I worked on and off with him at the store and learned how to make jewelry and stuff like that.”
Smoot interacts well with students. Senior Autumn Foltz says “She is very creative and she pushes people to do their best and she is good with her suggestions and she lifts people and complements their art.”
“Art always invokes an emotion. Art comes from the soul of the artist it is an experience of what is on the inside there is a creative ability within each one of us that can be expressed differently,” Smoot said.
Smoot also is the mother of ceramics teacher Cara Hunter.
