Ericka Dial teaches Intro to 2-D art and is a new teacher in Wayne Township. She moved here this year from Monroe-Gregg School District.
Dial graduated from Brownsburg High School, then furthered her education and graduated from IUPUI Herron School of Art + Design. During her time in the Art Education program, Dial student taught at North Central High School, Pike High School, and Snacks Crossing Elementary in Pike Township.
What made her want to be an art teacher is, “I want to use Art as a therapy to inspire and teach youth how to express their emotions and sense of self in a creative way.” Dial stated.
Dial then talks about why she moved to Ben Davis, “I desired to work in a more diverse community and academic setting with a lot of growth opportunities for students and teachers.”
Here’s what Dial has to say about her strategies she uses, “I like to incorporate mindfulness practices into art lessons that encourage students to self-express raw feelings and help them to find clarity in them.”
“Artist Research is a common integrative practice in lessons that include both the historical and modern art world. Students get familiar with several different art mediums and learn of their origin during the art-making process,” Dial said about how she integrates art history into her practical art lessons.
