The freaks on parade tour made its way to Indianapolis last saturday at the Ruoff music center Amphitheater, the bands playing included the headliners, Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper, and two other supporting bands, Ministry and Filter.
When I arrived, there were a lot of people as expected, and the first thing we did was step into the merch line, and I bought a Ministry T-shirt. Afterwards we made our way to our spots in the middle of the lawn and waited for the first band to play.
The first band, Filter, went by fairly quickly, they started their set out with the song called “You Walk Away”, followed by “(Can’t you) Trip Like I Do”, “Obliteration”, “Take a Picture”, “Welcome to the Fold”, and closed out with “Hey Man Nice Shot”, my favorite song it the setlist was “Hey Man Nice Shot”. They talked to the crowd a little bit, before leaving the stage and giving us a few minutes before Ministry came up.
After about 5 minutes, Ministry, came on stage and started the set out with a song called “Alert Level”, followed by “Goddamn White Trash”, “Stigmata”, “Burning Inside”, “N.W.O.”, “Just One Fix”, “Thieves”, and closed out with “Jesus Built My Hotrod”, My favorite song in the setlist was “Stigmata”. Throughout their songs they talked with the crowd a few times, and the lead singer Alejandro Casas, took a photo with the crowd and then they made their way off stage.
Now the wait for Alice Cooper was much longer than the wait for Ministry, because it took about 15 minutes for him to set up his stage, And at this point it was starting to get darker outside, Once he came on stage he began his Set with a Partial version of “Lock Me Up”, followed by “No More Mr. Nice Guy”, “I’m Eighteen”, “Under My Wheels”, “Billion Dollar Babies”, “Hey Stoopid”, “He’s Back (The Man Behind the Mask)”, “Snakebite”, “Feed My Frankenstein”, “Poison”, “Guitar Solo (With Nita Strauss)”, “Black Widow Jam”, “Ballad of Dwight Fry”, “Killer / I Love the Dead”, “Elected”, and then he closed his set out with “School’s Out”. My Favorite song in the setlist was “He’s Back (The Man Behind the Mask)”. During all of his songs, he puts on acts and plays out scenes with the other band members, each song something different happens, Like on the song “Feed My Frankenstein”, Someone in a big frankenstein costume walks around on stage. And on the song “I Love the Dead”, He gets executed on stage by a guillotine and his wife continues to dance around on stage with his head.
After Alice steps off stage we had to wait another 15 minutes for Rob Zombie to prepare. Finally, Rob Zombie opened his set with the song “Demon Speeding”, followed by “Super-Charger Heaven (White Zombie Cover)”, “Feel so numb”, “”Well, Everybody’s Fucking in a U.F.O.”, “What Lurks on Channel X”, “Superbeast”, “The Lords of Salem”, “Dead City Radio and the New Gods of Supertown”, “The Triumph of King Freak (A Crypt of Preservation and Superstition”, “Drum Solo”, “The Satanic Rites of Blacula”, “More Human than Human (White Zombie Cover)”, “Living Dead Girl”, “Thunder Kiss ‘65”, and then he closed out his set with “Dragula”. My favorite song in the setlist was “The Lords of Salem”. During his Set he had different images and clips playing on the projector screens on the stage, he had pictures of Charles Manson, Pentagrams, Demons, U.F.O.’s and Occult symbols. He also had a whole bunch of pyrotechnics and things going around on stage, and a man in a giant demon costume.
Overall I really enjoyed the concert, I think I underestimated it a little bit, I thought they were just going to come on stage, play the songs, and leave without talking or interacting with the crowd, but every band interacted with the crowd in some way, and both Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie both had a whole lot of things happening on stage while they performed. Something that I didn’t enjoy about the concert was that I wasn’t able to get any good pictures of Filter or Ministry because the sun was out and the pictures came out blurry and hard to see.
