If you want to see some of the best young acting talent in central Indiana, try to catch the Beef N Boards presentation of A Christmas Story, The Musical, now showing through early January at the northwest side dinner theatre.
A Christmas Story is a classic Christmas movie that shows for 24 straight hours starting on Christmas Eve and ending Christmas night. The Musical captures all the fun of that classic movie and more.
Teddy Wiegand, an 11-year-old from the west side of Indianapolis, makes his Beef N Boards debut as Ralphie, the central figure in the story. Eddie Curry plays the elder Ralphie and acts as narrator of the story. The two keep the show flowing and work well together.
The shows features five other performers under the age of 13 who hail from all sides of the city. Curry is performing in his 94th production at Beef N Boards.
The youngsters steal the show in this fact-paced musical. The story mirrors the movie but the musical acts are entertaining and watching them pull of the infamous tongue stuck to a frozen pole is hilarious. The leg lamp scenes alone are worth the price of admission.
Veteran actor Don Ferrell does a great job as Darren McGavin, the old man in the show who portrays Ralphie’s father, a down-on-his-luck worker who loves the leg lamp his work sent him as a prize.
A Christmas Story, The Musical is the last production of the 2024 season at Beef N Boards. Call 317-872-9664 to inquire about tickets. The 2025 season kicks off in January with the first-ever performance of Murder on the Orient Express at the northwest side theatre.
