Henry leads Spartan surge

Michigan State (15-11, 9-11) defeated Indiana 64-58 and split two games with Big Ten champion Michigan, losing 69-50 and winning 70-64. Aaron Henry had 22 points (8 for 16, 1 for 2, 5  for 8), eight rebounds, five assists, two steals, one blocked shot, and three turnovers in 37 minutes against the Hoosiers; 14 points (6 for 15, 0 for 1, 2 for 3), five rebounds, one assist, two blocked shots, one steal, and four turnovers in 32 minutes in the loss to the Wolverines; and 18 points (6 for 13, 1 for 2, 5 for 6), five rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 37 minutes in the win against their in-state rival.

Ball State (10-12, 8-9) defeated Eastern Michigan 100-65 and lost 89-70 to Toledo. Jalen Windham played a total of six minutes in the two games and had three points (1 for 3, 1 for 3, 0 for 0).

MENS TENNIS

Bellarmine lost 6-1 to Alabama-Birmingham. Ian Deiters won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles and lost 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

MENS GOLF

 Robert Turner was third for second place Franklin and seventh of 28 overall in the four team (Hanover, Franklin, Defiance, Spalding) Battle at Beterra with scores of 83-76-159.

BASEBALL

Wabash (1-4) lost three times against Alma, 4-0, 11-6, 10-7. Logan Butrum pitched one third of an inning in the second loss and gave up one hit, two walks, and one run.

Central Methodist (13-2) defeated Missouri Baptist 8-5 and Indiana Tech 8-2 and 4-1. Isaiah Davis pinch ran for CMU in each game and scored a run against Missouri Baptist.

MENS INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

 Competing at the NAIA National Championships, Grace’s Maurice Macklin achieved NAIA All American status as a member of the fifth place 4 X 800 relay team in a school record time of 7:45.87.

FOOTBALL

Rose-Hulman (1-0) defeated Defiance 52-6. Noah Thomas caught seven passes for 183 yards, rushed twice for three yards each time, and returned a punt 14 yards for the winners.

Wayne Vaughn started at left tackle on the offensive line for Manchester (0—3) in a 40-14 loss to Bluffton.

Marian (2-1) lost 16-14 to Concordia, Michigan.  Sir’ Zion Dance had five solo tackles and four assisted tackles for Marian.

WOMENS BASKETBALL

Lakeland (6-6) lost 73-43 to Wisconsin-Lutheran in the first round of the conference tournament. Brianna Jones had two points (0 for 0, 0 for 0 2 for 2), two rebounds, and three turnovers in nine minutes for Lakeland.

Xavier lost 65-57 to St. John’s 65-57 in the first round of the Big East Tournament.  Nia Clark had seven points (2 for 8, 1 for 3, 2 for 2), two rebounds, and three turnovers in 22 minutes for Xavier.

Hutchinson Community College (10-2) defeated Pratt C.C. 66-55 and Garden City 56-52. Cherrelle Newsom had three points (1 for 3, 1 for 3, 0 for 0) and one rebound in 11 minutes against Pratt; and three points (1 for1, 1 for 1, 0 for 0) in five minutes against Garden City.

Toledo (12-12, 8-12) defeated Western Michigan 82-73 and Eastern Michigan 59-55. Khera Goss had eight points (3 for 6, 2 for 4, 0 for 0) and one turnover in 23 minutes against WMU; and four points (2 for 5, 0 for 1, 0 for 0), three rebounds, three assists, five steals, and two turnovers in 35 minutes against EMU.
