Tips and Strategies for the SATs

 

The most stressful time of the year is right around the corner! With the first SAT testing date on 10/3/15, there is no doubt that students need to begin to prepare for testing. To help ease the overwhelming anxiety, check out these tips that are guaranteed to help you do well on the SAT.

  • Be sure you have all of your materials!
    • Admission Ticket
    • Two No. 2 Pencils
    • An eraser
    • Photo ID
    • An Acceptable Calculator
    • A Watch (optional, but helpful)
    • A drink or snack for break time (optional)
  • Test Tips
    • Answer easy questions first. Mark the more difficult ones, so you can come back to them later.
    • If you aren’t sure of the answer, try to eliminate your choices and make a guess from there.
    • You can write in the test book! Cross out wrong answers; write down anything that may help.
    • If you are absolutely unsure of an answer, skip the question. You don’t lose any points.
    • Be sure to keep track of the time. Try to spend only seconds on the easiest questions and at the most, a couple minutes on the hardest ones.
    • Be careful when filling in your answer! Check that you are placing it in the correct test section and number on the answer sheet.
    • Read the question carefully, and make sure you are answering the questions it’s asking.
    • Be sure to do some SAT practice questions in all categories before you take your test! Practice can only make you better.
