Brewer wins in shot put

Competing at the North Florida Big Ten Hawkeye Invitational Shot Put Invite, Purdue’s Jalil Brewer won the event with a toss of 64-7 ¾. Nine competitors were chosen for the Invite, based on their past performances. 19 others, all from Big Ten schools,  competed in the regular shot put event. The 28 competitors represented the 13 Big Ten schools that field track and Field teams. Northwestern does not.  Brewer also competed in the discus event, but he fouled on all three of his attempts.

Zach Brickler placed second of 19 in the 1500 (4:14.36) to help Trine win  the five team Olivet Invitational.

Rose-Hulman’s Tyler Speitel placed fourth of 16 in the 800 in 2:03.42 at the Hanover Invitational. Franklin’s Corbin Lee was 14th  in the 800 (2:32.25) and 14th of 16 in the 1500 (5:02.04). Teammate Matthew Lee was 16th in the 800 (2:45.23) and ninth in the 1500 (5:12.61).

Purdue-Fort Wayne’s Dana Fagnon placed sixth of six in the 110 hurdles (15.96) and was a member of the third place 4 X 100 and third place 4 X 400 relay teams at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Relays.

Indiana State’s Mike Adams, running in a dual meet with Eastern Illinois, was 18th of 20 in the 200 (22.79) and was eliminated by a false start in the 100.

WOMENS OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

Purdue’s Simi Akinrinsola, competing at the North Florida Big Ten Hawkeye Invitational, placed 16th of 23 in the regular shot put (eight others in the Invite) with a toss of 42.08 and 12th of 17 in the regular hammer throw (nine others in Invite) with a toss of 152-2.

WOMENS BASKETBALL

 Hutchinson Community College (18-4, 12-4) lost 77-58 to Barton Community College and won 85-65 against Colby Community College. Cherrelle Newsom played a total of 18 minutes in the two games and had three points (1 for 2, 1 for 1, 0 for 0), four rebounds, one steal, one assist, and one turnover.

MENS TENNIS

Bellarmine (3-18) lost 4-3 to North Alabama and 7-0 to Lipscomb. Ian Deiters lost 6-2 at No. 1 doubles and 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles against North Alabama; and 6-2 at No.2 doubles  and 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles against Lipscomb.

MENS SOCCER

Dana Escamilla took one shot for Franklin (2-6-1)  in a 1-0 loss to Transylvania.

BASEBALL

Zion Avery is batting .238 (5 for 21) with one double, one triple, one home run, six runs scored, and seven RBI’s, playing in the last nine games for Parkland Community College (15-7).

Central Methodist (26-4, 13-2) won three of four games with Missouri Valley. Isaiah Davis pinch ran in two of the games and scored three runs. Apparently, players may pinch run more than once in a game.

MENS GOLF

Franklin’s “A” team placed third of seven teams, including a Franklin “B” team, at the Randal Sadler Invitational at Earlham College. Robert Turner was second for the Grizzlies and 17th of 40 overall with scores of 77-84-161.
