Giants to face Center Grove Saturday in Washington

The Ben Davis boys basketball team upset No. 2 Lawrence Central in the second game of last weekend’s Southport Regional and then outlasted New Palestine 53-47 to win the programs second regional in the past three years.

The regional championship means a 6 p.m. game Saturday in Washington, Indiana against MIC rival Center Grove. It will be the third MIC team the Giants have faced in the current tournament run, having beat Pike in sectionals and Lawrence Central last weekend.

Center Grove beat the Giants 56-45 on January 18. Since then, the Giants have won nine of their past 10 games. Ben Davis is 19-7 while Center Grove is 21-8.

Saturday’s matchup should be an interesting battle between the Giants 6-foot-8 center Dawand Jones and Center Grove’s 6-foot-10 center Trayce Jackson-Davis. Jones is headed to Ohio State on a football scholarship while Jackson-Davis is headed to Indiana University.
