Lydy helps Purdue beat Wisconsin

Week ending February 17

WRESTLING

 No. 22 Purdue defeated No. 18 Wisconsin 25-15 in a match held in Madison. The Boilers’ Dylan Lydy, ranked No. 12 in the nation at 174 pounds, won his match by a 6-3 score.

WOMENS BASKETBALL

Tuskegee (6-18, 4-12) defeated Paine 78-58 and lost 72-66 to Central State.  Shelle Daniels had 10 points (4 for 8, 0 for 1, 2 for 2), seven rebounds, one assist,  one blocked shot, two steals, and three turnovers in 20 minutes in the win; and team highs of 24 points (9  for 14, 2 for 2, 4 for 7) and 10 rebounds, with one assist, four steals and two turnovers in the loss.

Diamond Williams had two rebounds in seven minutes for Fort Wayne (4-22, 1-12) in a 66-52 loss to North Dakota State.

Erynn Young had team highs of 20 points (8 for 28, 1 for 6, 3 for 5), 10 rebounds, and three steals, as well as two assists and three turnovers, for Lincoln (22-3, 4-2) in a 60-59 loss to Parkland.

Jessie Kee, playing as a reserve, led Kaskaskia (10-14, 4-10) with 29 points (14 for 21, 1 for 2, 0 for 1) and four assists, and had seven rebounds, three steals, and one turnover in a 91-50 defeat of Shawnee.

Ancilla (18-5, 7-4) lost 63-37 to Mid-Michigan and defeated Jackson 70-63.  Shae Daniels had three points (1 for 6, 0 for 0, 1 for 2), six rebounds, two blocked shots, and two turnovers in the loss; and eight points (2 for 5, 0 for 0, 4 for 4) in the win. Other stats for the Jackson game are not posted.

MENS BASKETBALL

Jalen Newsom  had  seven points (2 for 4, 2 for 3, 1 for 2), four rebounds, and one turnover for Wabash Valley (18-8, 10-4) in a 90-64 defeat of Rend Lake.

IU-East (28-2, 7-0) defeated Carlow 115-59 and Cincinnati Christian 92-68. Datrion Harper had a team high 25 points (9 for 12, 2 for 3, 5 for 5), six rebounds, three steals, four assists, and five turnovers in 24 minutes against Carlow; and 10 points (2 for 3, 2 for 3, 4 for 4), two rebounds, four assists, and one turnover against Cincinnati Christian.

Millikin (11-14, 4-12) lost 65-56 to Illinois Wesleyan and 76-67 to Carroll. Michael Beaty had 14 points (4 for 9, 0 for 2, 6 for 8), two turnovers, one blocked shot, and one steal in 33 minutes against Illinois Wesleyan; and 15 points (7 for 10, 1 fo 2, 0 for 2), two rebounds, three assists, one blocked shot, one steal, and three turnovers in 29 minutes against Carroll.

SOFTBALL

Eastern Illinois (7-3) defeated Western Illinois 6-1 and 4-0, Western Carolina 5-3 and 3-1, and Gardner Webb 9-0. Kayla Bear had six hits , two RBIs, five runs scored, and one stolen base in two tries in 16 at bats for EIU and is batting .379 (11 for 29).

MENS TENNIS

Ohio Wesleyan lost 7-2 to Wisconsin-Whitewater and 5-4 to Grinnell before defeating Wheaton 5-4. Jacob Volbers lost 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6) at No. 6 singles and 8-6 at No. 2 doubles to Whitewater; 8-1 at No. 2 doubles against Grinnell; and  8-5 at No. 2 doubles to Wheaton.

WOMENS INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

 Ball State’s Meliza Rodriguez was second of five in the 3000 meters in 10:43.51 at the Ball State Tune-up.

Southern Indiana’s Ralen Campbell was 10th of 12 in the 60 meter dash (8.81) and sixth of nine in the long jump (15-4 ¼) at the DePauw Indoor Classic.

MENS INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

Competing at the Heartland Conference Championships, Franklin’s Nate Adams was third of 25 in the weight throw  (53-5) and 12th of 28 in the shot put (41-2 ½).

Indianapolis’ Jordan Boyd was 10th of 20 in the shot put (50-9 ½) and fourth of 12 in the weight throw  (58-5 ½) at the Ohio State Buckeye Tune-up.

Purdue’s Jalil Brewer was second of 10 in the shot put (62-7 ¾) at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame.

Indiana Tech’s Maurice Macklin was ninth of 18 in the 800 meters (2:03.68) at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championships.

DePauw’s Demarco Henry was 23rd of 29 in the 60 meter dash (7.63); and Southern Indiana’s Kirk Quartey was 25th (7.66)  and 30th of 32 in the 200 (26.14) at the DePauw Indoor Classic.

Illinois State’s Jordan Wilkerson was third of eight in the high jump (6-5 ½) and 12th  in the 60 meter hurdles (9.54) at the University of Illinois Orange and Blue Open.
