Boys win county track title

Several rain delays couldn’t stop Ben Davis from winnings its third Marion County boys track championship in the past four years Thursday night at North Central.

The two-day event ended Thursday evening with the Giants on top with 135.5 points while Pike was second with 100. The Giants dominated the field events and followed the 1-2 punch of seniors Christian Powell and Chris Evans to the championship.

Powell and Evans finished first and second, respectively, in the long jump while Evans won the 110 meter hurdles in :14.77. The two also teamed together with senior Joshua Edwards and junior Julian Ladd to win the 4 by 100 relay in :41.71.

In the field events, senior Jalil Brewer won the shot put with a throwe of 58’11” and junior Pompey Coleman won the discus with a throw of 167’9″. Powell went 23’10.5″ to win the long jump. Powell also finished second in the 100 and 200 meter dashes.
