Lady Giants excel at track regionals
Relay team sets school record
Inspired by a record-breaking performance by the 4 by 100 relay team, the Ben Davis girls track team finished tied for second in the BD Regionals Tuesday night.
The Lady Giants have six girls who will be moving forward to the state track championship at IU on June 6. Pike won the with 108 points while Ben Davis tied Cathedral with 64 points.
The 4 by 100 relay of Dajia Collier, Ravon Woodson, Sheniya Brown and Kyara Simmons broke yet another record, smashing the BD school record again and beating the previous regional record with a time of :46.86. That time has them the No. 1 ranked relay team in the state.
In addition, the following girls performed well and will be moving on to state — Kyara Simmons in the 100 and 200, Ravon Woodson in the long jump, Erynn Young in the high jump and Connie Brahm, Simmons, Woodson and Young in the 4 by 400 relay.
Also on Tuesday, the girls tennis team lost 3-2 to Brebuef to end their season at the Brownsburg regional. Senior Savannah Wills won at No. 1 singles and moves on in the singles state tournament.
The boys track team will take 19 individuals and all three relays to the North Central Regional Thursday.
