Girls open Tuesday at Pike

The girls tennis team has resumed their season after a productive offseason and is ready to put it all to the court. Coach Kevin Vanderbush is ready to get his players into good form in order to compete this season.

Vanderbush is excited about his about his players that are returning this year, but he  wants to put them on the task to even improve on their play from season ago.

“The varsity tennis team returns five varsity letterwinners from last year’s squad.  The two returning seniors are Savannah Wills, who played one singles last year, and DeOnya Garner, who played one doubles,” said Coach Vanderbush.

“The other three returners are sophomores Mya Carter and Olivia Hefner who were our number two doubles team last year and sophomore Christina Tschaen who filled in at one doubles,: Vanderbush said.

Vanderbush is excited about the players that are returning and those that even had to miss last season for various reasons. The girls begin the season Tuesday at Pike.

“Junior Emma Drummond who missed most of last year due to injury , but played varsity her freshman year, will be back also,” Vanderbush said.
Vanderbush’s goal for the team is that through every game to keep playing harder in order to raise their level of play to be in contention in the sectionals.

“Our goal is to continue to improve throughout the season so we can be competitive in our sectional,” Vanderbush said.
