Boys golfers head to regionals

Chin says mental toughness was key to advancing

Boys golf coach Bobby Chin will travel south with his golf team this Wednesday to compete in the IHSAA Regional round of competition.

“We will head south for a practice round at Country Oaks (Montgomery, IN) on Wednesday afternoon and stay the night at a hotel close to the course. We know what to do in a practice round in order to prepare for a tournament,” Chin said.

The boys advanced from the South Grove sectional last Friday.

“Our goal for regionals is for each player to card their lowest round of the season,” Chin said. “There is no room for lost strokes. To make it to State our team has shoot around 15 strokes better than our previous low.”

Chin believes mental toughness was the key to advancing out of sectionals.

“The key to advancing was the player’s having an unshakable confidence in themselves – knowing they have put in the work necessary to perform at their potential – staying mentally tough and focused on what they wanted for the entire round,” he said.

“I was extremely proud of the players. Their sectional round was the fruit of everything we have worked on this season. They learned from all of the ebbs and flows of the season and we all had it in our minds that we would qualify for regionals -and we did.”
