Boys win MIC track title

Relay win fuels state’s No. 1 team

Fueled by a thrilling finish in the 4 by 400 relay, the boys track team upheld its No. 1 state ranking by winning the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference championships Friday night with 144 points.

Carmel finished second with 137.5 followed by Center Grove (76.5) and Lawrence North (74).

The 4 by 400 relay team of senior Moussa Conde, junior Derrick Jones, senior Aaron Murray and sophomore Christian Powell won in a time of 3:21.85 with Center Grove a close second in 3:21.94.

Conde was one of two BD individual champion with a 14′ clearance in the pole vault. Senior DeAndre Bluitt won the high jump with a jump of 6’4″.

Conde also was runner-up in the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdle. Other second place finishes went to senior Jaymin Miles in the long jump, junior Dallas Pitts in the shot put, junior Justin Brandon in the discus, Murray in the 400 and Jones in the 200 meters.

The Ben Davis girls finished seventh in their meet with 53.5 points.  Senior Devyn Vandever was the only champion with a :44.96 in the 300 hurdles and the 4 by 100 relay team of senior Maya Caudle, junior Dajia Collier, freshman Ashley Baker and sophomore Ravon Woodson finished runner-up in :48.28.
