Another winter sports team kicks off the 2013-14 season tonight when the girls swim team travels to Southport.

“With more than half the team consisting of new swimmers and divers, we will see a lot of improvement with the best improvement being at the sectional championship meet,” coach George Fastrich said.

The team is also looking at improving their dual meet record as well as their placing at the championship meets.

Fastrich coaches both the boys and girls swim team. The girls season typically begins two weeks prior to the boys.

The main goal for both teams is to have more swimmers qualify for the state meet and improving their dual meet record.

Last year the girls were 6-14 while the boys were 11-8-1.

The only state qualifier last year was Cole Crouch, who now swims at Wabash College.

“We are going to be young but we are enthusiastic,” Fastrich said. “Both teams are training hard and we have a lot of young talent.”

The girls swim at 6 p.m. today at Southport. The boys start their season Dec. 3 at home against Bishop Chatard.

Seniors Cameron Peck, Oscar Villagomez and Aaron Solomon are the top returning boys.
