Fall sports winding down
As the football team prepares for Friday’s sectional showdown with neighborhood rival Pike, the rest of the fall sports season came to an end over fall break.
The boys cross country team advanced to the semistate level as did junior Connie Brahm. Volleyball ended its season with a four-set lost to Perry Meridian while boys and girls soccer each lost to Brebeuf in sectional action. The boys tennis team won its sectional prior to fall break but lost to Avon in regional competition.
That leaves football as the remining team left in fall action. The boys take an 8-2 record and a No. 2 state ranking into Friday’s Class 6A Sectional 5 championship game at home. Ben Davis beat Pike 49-48 in overtime during the regular season but lost to Pike 35-25 in last year’s sectionals.
Since both teams became part of the same sectional grouping in 1998, Ben Davis owns a 10-3 series edge but Pike owns a 3-2 edge in sectional games.
Winter sports begin in November with the girls basketball team starting action in a Nov. 12 scrimmage at Cathedral.
