Ben Davis enters the 2025 football season rated No. 1 in Class 6A based on being the defending state champions.
The Giants open the season Friday at home against Cathedral, a team Ben Davis beat in the regional championship last year on a last minute field goal.
“Every week is going to be tough,” coach Russ Mann said. “We know teams will be shooting for us.”
The Giants feature one of the state’s top returning backs in senior Alijah Price and one of the top recruits in the state in senior Mark Zackery, a wide receiver/cornerback who has already committed to play at Notre Dame next season.
Ben Davis will look to a new quarterback and will also have to replace three linebackers who were the heart and soul of last year’s state title team.
“These seniors are learning to be leaders,” Mann said. “We have a whole new identity this year.”
Ben Davis owns 15 straight wins over Cathedral.
