The girls basketball team survived a 62-57 three overtime thriller Saturday night to capture the 2022 Perry Meridian sectional championship over neighborhood rival Pike.

The girls ran out to an 11-0 lead to start the game but held off Pike throughout the second half. Ben Davis had the ball and a chance to win at the end of the game and each overtime. The girls won despite making only 15 of 40 free throws.

Junior Cristen Carter led the Giants with 17 points and 16 rebounds while junior Taylor Guess chipped in 11 points and 17 rebounds. Senior Kansas Robinson added eight points and 10 rebounds.

Ben Davis next plays Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Decatur Central regional. The Giants will play the winner of the Mount Vernon vs. Pendleton Heights game that will be played Tuesday night at Mount Vernon.
