Jones captures county golf crown

Senior Camron Jones became the sixth player in school history to win the Marion County individual golf championship Monday.

Jones shot a 1-under-par 71 at Smock Golf Course to claim the individual crown. The Giants finished 11th out of 16 teams overall with a score of 441. The boys are off until playing the conference meet Monday in Westfield.


The girls won their own invitational over the weekend for the first time since 2016. Ben Davis went 3-1 in the two-day tourney and beat Martinsville 10-0 in the championship game. The girls lost to Ritter Monday night and host Center Grove tonight.


The boys host Center Grove in a double-header beginning at 5 p.m. today. Ben Davis went 1-1 this past Saturday, including a 18-1 loss to Avon and a 8-7 win over Martinsville on a walkoff single by Matt McCleerey. The boys are 6-4 heading into tonight’s double-header.


The girls return home Thursday to host Covenant Christian. The girls are 1-6 after Monday’s loss to Roncalli and they travel to Southport Wednesday.


The Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference meet is this Friday starting at 6 p.m.
