Sandi Squire poses with her award for top administrator of the year as named by the Indiana High School Press Association

Squire was named top administrator in the state for her continued support of Ben Davis student media.

“She is always there for us and she gives us the freedom we need to do what we do,” student publications advisor Tom Hayes said.  “We could not publish what we do without the support she offers us.”

Hayes was especially impressed with the support received from Squire during the Covid pandemic when students were sent home in March.

“We still produced content and Sandi was supportive of us coming in when we needed to in order to access school equipment,” Hayes said. “We were able to historically document what happened after Covid hit in part because Sandi realizes the importance of student media and what we offer to our student body. Our yearbook staff produced a 28-page supplement about Covid that was named best news coverage of the year by IHSPA in part because Sandi allowed us the opportunities and access we needed to get that supplement done.”
