It’s time for some football

The Ben Davis Giants football team will open up their season at home this Friday against Brownsburg.

BD will be playing for a chance at their 500th program win. The Giants faced the Bulldogs for the first time in the regular season last year, and Brownsburg won a 29-24 nailbiter. It was Brownsburg’s first win in seven meetings between the teams.

The Giants will be led this season by seniors Daylan Carnell, Romel Williams and Charles Knuckols. Coming off of a 8-5 season in which they were a game short of making the 6A State Championship, Ben Davis will surely be looking to make the extra leap this year.

The Bulldogs are led by seniors Ben Easters, Preston Terrell and Jalen Wilson. Brownsburg finished 2019 with a 7-4 record, losing 44-41 to Zionsville in the Sectional 5 Championship. They have not won a sectional championship since 2009. Getting to regionals will be even tougher for the Bulldogs this season, as defending 6A state champions Carmel has moved into Sectional 5.

This should be one of the best matchups around the state this Friday, with Browensbugh touting a No. 4 ranking in Class 6A and Ben Davis at No. 5. Two of the west side’s best squads will go toe-to-toe for bragging rights.

Ben Davis will play another west side power in Avon next week. If all goes well, the Giants and Bulldogs could face off again during regionals. But for now, the focus is on Friday night’s showdown at Giants Stadium.
