Journalism staffs earn 40 awards at J-Day

Three Ben Davis journalism departments combined to earn 40 awards at the annual Ball State High School Journalism Day Monday in Muncie, Indiana.

The awards included six Superior awards, the highest award given in the annual contest. Senior Jennie Leeper earned Superior for her news writing story on the B grade Ben Davis earned from the state this year. Leeper is co-editor of Spotlight.

Senior Candice Moedano also earned Superior for a baseball photo (featured here) she took last spring while junior Anna Eggers earned Superior for her graphic on Stan Lee after his passing. Both are Spotlight staff members, with Moedano a co-photo editor and Eggers news editor.

BDTV earned two Superior ratings with Kieran Simmer winning for “Enlist, Enroll, Employ” and Eliza Wanderwalle for her feature package titled “Jolly Days.” WBDG sports anchor Grant Covey won Superior in play-by-play for his coverage of Ben Davis basketball.
