Teachers Treasure is a not for profit organization that collects supplies from donors and offers them to teachers.
Lori Welter serves as the Ben Davis liaison between Teachers Treasures and Ben Davis teachers. As liaison, Welter gets two trips a month to get supplies.
“Sometimes I can fill up the entire back seat of my car with supplies,” Welter said. “One time I filled up the back of my car and the back seat.”
Teachers sign up to be a member of Teachers Treasures and they are allowed one trip per month. They can get anything from free books to pencils to paper to room decor on their trip.
“I always ask teachers if they need anything and I try to get as much as possible when I go,” Welter said. “It’s almost like free shopping at Amazon.”
Teachers Treasures has two shops in town, one on east 10th Street near Tech High School and one in the building that used to be Northwest High School at 34th and Moeller Road. It has been open for 20 years.
