Chelsea Hughes is passionate about poetry. And art work. And photography. And creative writing.

That is why it is a natural for her to be the driving force behind the first Open Mic Night to be hosted at Ben Davis in five years.

“Open Mic is a safe place for artist, writers, singers and anyone who wants to show off their talent,” Hughes said.

Open Mic will be hosted Sept. 29 in the Harvest from 3:30-5:30 p.m. The event is co-sponsored by the Giant Visions magazine and the BD theatre department.

Open Mic is for anyone at the school who likes creativity. To participate, you need to sign up in advance with either journalism teacher Tom Hayes in X109 or theatre teacher Ben Fraley in the theater.

To attend as a spectator, just show up. Refreshments will be available as well as some fun games.

“It really is for anyone who just wants to come out and hang out,” Hughes said.
