Moncrief makes history

Senior is first BD student to win Circle City competition

kamSenior Kambria Moncrief was crowned the 2013 Miss Circle City Classic during coronation festivities Sunday at the Scottish Rite Cathedral.

Moncrief will participate in the Circle City parade this Saturday as well as festivities surrounding the football game between Alcorn State and Grambling State Saturday afternoon at Lucas Oil Stadium. She is the first Ben Davis student to win the title Miss Circle City Classic.

Moncrief sat down and talked about the experience.

What was it like preparing for the Circle City Classic Coronation?

“It was stressful. We had to make sure what we did was pretty and it was fun because we got the chance to meet new people.”

What was your favorite thing about being in the coronation?

“My favorite thing was the meetings on Saturday and the different workshops we got to do in preparation of the actual coronation.”

How did it feel when they called your name to be crowned Queen?

“It was surprising and much unexpected. It was exciting.”

You were first from Ben Davis to win. How does that make you feel?

“It makes me feel really good. I made history and not a lot of people can say that.”

If you could do it again, would you change anything and why?

“I would change the date of the coronation from Sunday to Saturday because I was tired this morning and didn’t want to get up.”

Are you excited to be in the Classic parade 2013?

“Yes. When you were younger you would always wish your school would be in the parade, and now I am going because I got crowned queen.”

What is one piece of advice you would give to the girls next year that want to be in the coronation?

“Always stay confident, don’t put yourself down because you never know what you’re capable of.”
