Two schools separated by less than eight miles and six spots in the state polls square off Friday night in Giant Stadium.

“The football players are excited for their first home game of the season. It is a westside rivalry,” football coach Mike Kirschner said.

The game will feature Class 6A No. 1 Ben Davis hosting Class 6A No. 7 Avon. The Giants opened the season with a 49-7 win at Tech while Avon opened with a 58-32 win over Plainfield.

Against Tech, a strong first half effort led the Giants to their 19th straight regular season win. Senior running back Johnny Adams scored two touchdowns in the first quarter.

The Giants got contributions from nearly everyone on offense as they cruised to a 49-0 lead by halftime.

Avon promises to be a more challenging foe.
